Beatboxing Lesson 7

Lesson Overview

With a good arsenal of rhythms under your belt, Nathan is now going to help you combine them all into one long combo of a rhythm. This will help to take your skills of beatboxing on the didgeridoo from a practice session to something that you will want to actually play in front of other people. You will also learn about how to do a sliding scale of dynamics.

Lesson Goals

  • On your didgeridoo practice doing a seamless combination of “been to the beach, been to the country, been to the beach, been to pantry (pountry)”
  • Practice the sliding scale and make sure you have perfected it at both its highest and lowest points
  • Make up your own rhythm from all of the different rhythms that you have learned so far until you find the one that you like best

Training Tips

  • Perform the rhythm at a speed that is comfortable for you. Everyone will be comfortable at a different speed so remember – it doesn’t matter what your speed is, all that matters is that it sounds good
  • The sliding scale is one of the most important techniques that you will learn. Make sure you can make the sounds correctly at both levels
  • Learning to get the small buzz while breathing without wobbling is a good thing to practice while learning the beatboxing techniques
  • Even though there is no new rhythms in this lesson, make sure you are able to make smooth transitions with correct breathing techniques before moving on. Also try and perfect your sliding scale before attempting the next lesson, as not doing so will make things more difficult for you in the future
