Creative Rhythm Timing 2
Lesson Overview
After learning a new timing pattern in the last lesson, Nathan is taking things to the next level. This timing pattern is a bit more complex but shouldn’t be anything that you can’t handle by now if you have been mastering all of your lessons as you go along.
Lesson Goals
- Practice the “1, 2, breath, 1, 2, 3” pattern directly on your didgeridoo until it feels natural
- Create your own breathing pattern on your didgeridoo until you feel comfortable playing a new rhythm on the fly
- Try playing a variety of rhythms using 3 part rhythms and 4 part rhythms as your basis
Training Tips
- If you are having trouble remembering where you want to breathe when beginning a new pattern, try writing the pattern down and looking at it while you play
- Don’t try to create a pattern that is longer than you can go without having a breath. Without a sufficient amount of air in your lungs you won’t be able to create the proper noises in your didgeridoo
- If you already feel comfortable with a certain pattern, don’t feel like you have to play it forever. Move into the next pattern to keep things interesting for yourself and anyone who is listening
- Don’t move too fast through the lessons. If you still need more time to work on this one then keep practicing it until you are bored with it and creating your rhythms comes effortlessly
