Didgeridoo Tongue Roll

Lesson Overview

Here we explore more ways to make new sounds with your tongue movements. Here we show you the “tongue roll”. It’s called the tongue roll but it’s actually more of a flutter or vibration

Lesson Goals

  • Make the tongue roll sound without the didgeridoo
  • Make the tongue roll sound while playing the drone
  • Hear a clear tongue roll effect in your drone
  • Add a high pitched vocal to your tongue roll

Training Tips

  • Practice getting comfortable at this technique without the didgeridoo first
  • If it’s not working when you play your didgeridoo, try putting your lips to the mouthpiece and starting with the tongue roll without the drone, then add your vibrating lips to bring in the drone
  • The clearer your drone sounds, the better you will hear the tongue roll effect
  • Control your lip tension so you don’t use too much air

Give it a try, let us know how you go and if you get stuck, post a question in the comments section below.
