Didgeridoo Flute Sound

Lesson Overview

Want to learn to play an unusual sound on your didge? In this lesson, Sanshi will teach you how to play the flute sound on a Didgeridoo.

Lesson Goals

  • Be able to find the right angle on your didge to blow and play the flute sound.
  • Be able to come out with the right amount of air when blowing.
  • Be able to play different pitches by blowing the right amount of air.

Training Tips

  • First technique is to open your mouth as big as the opening of your didge then put your tongue out.
  • Try blowing at an angle of your didge.
  • Most of the time, the sound won’t just come out easily so it is best to find the right angle to blow on your didge.
  • Don’t blow so hard, just enough as if your blowing a candle.
  • When you hear the whistling sound, then it’s already a sign that you are at the right angle.
  • Try opening your mouth wider and adjusting your angle a little bit to find the tune.
  • As soon as you find your angle, make sure to stay at that position while blowing.
  • Try playing the flute sound at a higher pitch.
  • A high pitch is created by blowing harder, pushing your tongue out, and narrowing your mouth closer to the didge.
  • It usually takes time to get the technique so don’t get frustrated when practicing.
