Widt Da
Lesson Overview
This is a clever little tongue technique that works on stopping the drone briefly. It is great for creating punchy fast rhythms. This lessons shows you the technique and also a funky rhythm to practice it
Lesson Goals
- Be able to pronounce the “widt” tongue movement to stop the drone while playing
- Play the rhythm “widt da (B) widt-da (B)…”
- Speed up this rhythm
Training Tips
- It’s the tongue coming all the way forward to block the air flow that stops the drone
- The pause in the drone is a great effect when played both slow and fast
- Try to get a nice clean start to the drone again after the “widt”
- This rhythm sounds very cool when played fast. Keep increasing your speed to see how fast you can play this rhythm. Remember to keep it controlled with a clear sound
- Once comfortable with the base rhythm, try and substitute in your favourite sounds to spice it up
